How do I know if my house has asbestos?
Homes built in WA before 1990 commonly used asbestos in fences, roof sheets, eaves, wet-area walls and some floor coverings. If it's grey fibro and the house is older, treat it as asbestos until it's tested.
Can I remove asbestos myself?
In WA, homeowners can legally remove up to 10 square metres of non-friable asbestos themselves, but it must be handled and disposed of correctly. Anything larger, or any friable asbestos, needs a licensed removalist.
